Featured Staff Member Miss Roode
Miss Roode is a fifth grade West teacher. Her favorite subject is Social Studies and she also teaches Social Studies. Miss Roode’s favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. Miss Roode likes many things about being a teacher. But her favorite thing is that she loves her job, so she gets to go to a job everyday that she is excited about and enjoys. Miss Roode also feels that she is blessed to help play a small role in shaping the minds of young people who will be are future leaders. Miss Roode’s favorite grade in elementary school was 7th grade. This was because she had really good teachers that year. Then her favorite grade in High School was her junior year. This was because she was not a freshman any more, but she also didn’t have the pressure of having to think about college being a senior yet. Even though Miss Roode loves being a teacher very much if she had to have any other job she would probably be a counselor. This is because Miss Roode thinks she could help people a lot in this career field.

Featured Staff Member Mrs. Schmidt
This week I interviewed Sue Schmidt. She has been a classroom aide for 61/2 years. Her favorite movie is the Polar Express. When she decided to go back to work after 14 years of taking care of her children, she had to make a choice whether or not to go back into her prior career. Being a skilled profession, she knew she was out of the loop with the latest computer programming, that would be necessary for her re-employment as an executive or legal secretary. Still wanting to be able to be a part of her children's lives as much as possible, she decided to work for school so she could have her summers off. Her mother was an elementary school secretary and her father was a teacher, so she knew as a kid how that felt having those summers with her mom and dad around. She subbed as a librarian and also as a classroom aide. She kept getting called back to do classroom aide work, and she found that she really enjoyed working with special needs students. Mrs. Schmidt has always lived in Ohio and took 14 years off of her career to be a mom. Thank you Mrs. Schmidt for letting me interview you.

Mrs. Aliaga is a teacher who cares how her students feel and helps them to feel comfortable on what is happening in computer class. Mrs. Aliaga started out as a 3rd grade teacher, but the job for computer teacher became open so she decided to take the job. She first used a computer when she was in high school and started using it a lot in collage, although if computers were accessible when she was younger she would have used them more. She mostly learned about computers the same way a lot of us do, playing around on them! This is Mrs. Aliaga, our Computer Teacher.

Featured Staff Member Mrs. Kellner
Mrs.Kellner began teaching physical education in Rio Hondo TX in Aug.1981. She taught there for 5 years. Upon moving back to Ohio, she taught high school health from Aug.1986-May 1995. She took 2 years parental leave & returned to teaching middle school physical education for 3.25 years. She is in her third year of teaching physical education at Five Points.
She subbed in Springboro for 3 years & taught mosly 3rd grade, although she subbed at every grade level in just about every subject from K-12. She long-term subbed in 3rd grade for 5 months.
She really enjoys teaching physical education here at Five Points. If she had her choice , she would she would stay here and teach only 3rd-5th grades.
She has two brothers-Brandt & Bruce; Brandt is older and lives in Florida. bruce is 5 years younger and lives close to Boston,MA.She has a sister who is older and lives in Ohio.
While she visiting her mom a few weeks ago, she came across her old report cards. She was pretty much an A&B student. Looking at her test scores, she saw she had some trouble on the standardized tests.
Relative to her grades, it seemed that when she was interested in a subject, she did very well. If her interest wasn't there, she is guessing she didn't apply myself. She has "smartness" in common sense which to her is more valuable than any grades she received over the years.

One of the questions I asked was: Do you like your job if so what about it He said that he has been a principal for 30 years so it is good that he likes to go to his job every day . Also he said that the most things he likes about being a principal is working with teachers to help students learn. Another question I asked was: What do you do as a principal? Mr. J answered: Being a principal has many responsibilities. They include making sure teachers have the material they need to teach. Another duty is working with teachers to help make sure that we are teaching the curriculum as adopted by the Board of Education. Making sure there is a schedule for teachers that include instruction time, specials time, lunch time, etc. is very important. Perhaps the most important part of the job is hiring good teachers to work with our students. The next question I asked is: Do you have any kids Mr. J: answered I have two grown children and four grandchildren. I also have two dogs. Also I asked: What is your favorite sport? Mr. J answered: My favorite sport is college football. I also think lacrosse is pretty neat. And the last question was: Where did you go to college? And Mr. J answered : I got my undergraduate degree for teaching at the University of Cincinnati and my master's degree to be a principal at the University of Dayton.

Featured Staff Member Mr. Prater
Mr. Prater is one of our most humorous teachers here at Five Points Elementary! He always makes jokes and is hilarious! But he can be very serious too. He loves working here, and he loved school as a kid. His favorite subject was science because he loves doing experiments and working with space and the Earth! Besides loving science he teaches it too! He doesn’t teach only science he teaches Math, Reading, Social Studies, and English and like I said before science! With all this teaching in his hands he must have it hard, nope, to him teaching is just something that comes naturally to him so he thinks it is easy, he spends lots of time preparing for lessons which must make it easy for him, he has fun while doing this. Another thing that makes it easy for him is how long he has been teaching! He has been teaching for 5 years and that is a lot, now he teaches the 3rd grade which he has been teaching for most of his career as a teacher! Since I said he was funny you must be wondering why he is teaching instead of some other job, well he got inspired to teach because he has tried a lot of fun activities in his life and he wanted to try something new that he’s never done before! Also his wife teaches second grade and he worked with her students which was fun to him! Well, as you can see Mr. Prater is a very fun guy to be around!

Featured Staff Member- Mrs. Abrams
Mrs. Abrams' favorite childhood memories were the ones from Crane's beach. This beach is located in Ipswhich, Massachusetts. She grew up in MA, and she still loves to visit now as an adult. She lived a few miles away from the beach. She would always ride her bike with her friends and would stay all day. Nearby, there were lighthouses, rocks to climb on, swimming and a big castle at the beach owned by the Crane family. Sometimes she would go out on the boat, too. She remembers deciding to take her dog, Shannon out on the boat, too. Shannon loved sticking her head out the window. She like Crane's Beach because of the amazing scenery and the ocean's waves, even with her share of sunburns.
Mrs. Abrams enjoys teaching because she believes it is a time to be creative. Her students can play, sing, and dance. She loves it when students come up with their own songs and dances, because inventing is fun!
She has two children. Zachary is 5 years old and goes to Clearcreek Elementary. He plays the violin and takes gymnastics at the Y. His teacher told her that he is very shy in class but when it comes to singing the calendar song, he sings louder than anyone in the room. She also has a three year old named Dustin. He was born right before Christmas. His birthday is December 21st. His favorite activity is riding his bike. He loves his Spiderman bike and Spiderman helmet and asks to ride it the minute he wakes up.
Her favorite color is green/blue. (Which is also called aqua.)
Mrs. Abrams favorite junk food is chocolate. Dark chocolate. She loves Italian food!

Mrs. Hurley has enjoyed her eight years of work in the Springboro school district with other teachers that are always working to ensure that all students get the best education possible. She feels as a teacher that she must consider students come from various backgrounds and each have their own unique personality. She enjoys hearing students’ life stories, helping them cope with things inside and outside of school. “I come I come from a family of educators and wanted to be part of something that effects a person for life...education is one of the most valuable assets and person can hold. Educating a child can establish a passion for life long learning and the accomplishment of any hope, dream or goal.” This is what she says about teaching. She is motivated by love, passion, and dedication to the idea that each student deserves equal chance to learn. One of her favorite quotes is “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”-William Butler Yeats
