Featured Staff Member Mrs. Gerstner

I interviewed Mrs. Gerstner, a special education teacher. She has been involved with special education for four years. She has many different pets. She has Sadie a rat terrier-beagle, Jasper, a cat, and lots of fish in her 55 gallon aquarium. Mrs. Gerstner had a job before she became involved in special education. She had a few jobs before she started teaching. She was a lifeguard in high school, and she worked as a tutor in college. She got a bachelors degree in psychology. After college, she worked in a residential facility with teens who suffered from emotional and psychiatric problems. She then went back to college and got a masters degree in education, and began teaching special education after that. Mrs. Gerstner’s favorite place is Lake Cumberland. Mrs. Gerstner became involved in special education because she really enjoys helping students who need a little extra help in school. "It can be frustrating when you struggle with something, and I like that I get to help relieve some of that frustration for my students by showing them different ways to learn."
