Shawn Schmitt is a fourth grade west teacher at Five Points Elementary. This is his 7th year of teaching. He really likes to teach. His favorite subjects to teach are math and science. But he likes math a little bit more. He has students that are doing their best… most of the time. He loves sports and his favorite sport has got to be baseball.

Featured Staff Member Mrs. Woodby

Shelly Woodby's favorite place she has ever visited was the Grand Canyon. She would love to visit Hawaii. The best memories she ever had were the times she went on a cross county trip out West to California with her mom and dad, sister and two brothers. They camped all the way, without one hotel stop! That was even before DVD's in our vehicles! Congrats!
She has a fourteen year old and a 12 year old.
Her favorite things to see at school is the light in a child's eyes when they have that "I get it!" moment.

What's Happening in Our Halls? 3rd Grade West

Featured Staff Member- Mrs. Abrams

Mrs. Abrams' favorite childhood memories were the ones from Crane's beach. This beach is located in Ipswhich, Massachusetts. She grew up in MA, and she still loves to visit now as an adult. She lived a few miles away from the beach. She would always ride her bike with her friends and would stay all day. Nearby, there were lighthouses, rocks to climb on, swimming and a big castle at the beach owned by the Crane family. Sometimes she would go out on the boat, too. She remembers deciding to take her dog, Shannon out on the boat, too. Shannon loved sticking her head out the window. She like Crane's Beach because of the amazing scenery and the ocean's waves, even with her share of sunburns.
Mrs. Abrams enjoys teaching because she believes it is a time to be creative. Her students can play, sing, and dance. She loves it when students come up with their own songs and dances, because inventing is fun!
She has two children. Zachary is 5 years old and goes to Clearcreek Elementary. He plays the violin and takes gymnastics at the Y. His teacher told her that he is very shy in class but when it comes to singing the calendar song, he sings louder than anyone in the room. She also has a three year old named Dustin. He was born right before Christmas. His birthday is December 21st. His favorite activity is riding his bike. He loves his Spiderman bike and Spiderman helmet and asks to ride it the minute he wakes up.
Her favorite color is green/blue. (Which is also called aqua.)
Mrs. Abrams favorite junk food is chocolate. Dark chocolate. She loves Italian food!

Featured Staff Member- Mrs. Hurley

Mrs. Hurley has enjoyed her eight years of work in the Springboro school district with other teachers that are always working to ensure that all students get the best education possible. She feels as a teacher that she must consider students come from various backgrounds and each have their own unique personality. She enjoys hearing students’ life stories, helping them cope with things inside and outside of school. “I come I come from a family of educators and wanted to be part of something that effects a person for life...education is one of the most valuable assets and person can hold. Educating a child can establish a passion for life long learning and the accomplishment of any hope, dream or goal.” This is what she says about teaching. She is motivated by love, passion, and dedication to the idea that each student deserves equal chance to learn. One of her favorite quotes is “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”-William Butler Yeats

Mrs.Roark’s response to my questions Were 1.My favorite part of teaching is engaging my students in activities that are meaningful, fun, or interesting. 2. I've been a teacher for 26 years. 3. I chose to be a teacher because I genuinely love children and making a positive difference in their lives. 4. My least favorite part of teaching is having to convince parents and the community that we need our school levies to pass. 5. I decided I wanted to be a teacher when I was in high school. I always taught swimming lessons in the summer and worked at camps with children. I knew that teaching would be a fulfilling job for me.

Mrs. Harwood likes her job because she enjoys working with children. When teachers come to her sick she does the same as if they were children. One time a student passed out and hit his chin. Sometimes in winter the cots get filled up and children either lay in chairs or stand and wait. She has support for when she can’t be at her job by the secretaries or even nurses from other schools. Also, she loves to sit down and read a book that takes you on a new adventure every time. When Miss Z. was young, she was a great student. Miss Z. never copied because she didn’t want to face the consequences, and Miss Z. knew that it was wrong. “Good students should positive, have enthusiasm for learning, participation in learning experiences, and working well with others” says Miss Z. If you are looking for a great teacher in second grade, Miss Z. would be a great choice!
